I was born in Los Angeles California, I was raised in both San Ysidro California and Tijuana Mexico in the mid 60s. My parents owned a “Curios Shop” south of the border , during that time I was exposed to many different forms and styles of art from a multitude of talented artisans, this may be where my interest in art began
As a teenager I developed a strong interest in lowriders and custom cars, that interest would later become both a love and passion for the custom paints applied to them. “Kandy Kolors”, Metal Flakes and Pearlscents all dazzle the eye as they dance in the sunlight while at the same time almost demanding that you look and admire.
Upon nearing my retirement with the City of San Diego as a Communications Technician Supervisor (radio tech) I started to revisit my love of auto body work, which led me to replace the hood on my Chevy Tahoe. Once I replaced the hood I was left with the dilemma of what to do with the faulty hood…
I made a gecko for my wife’s garden. That gecko led to me revisiting my spray guns and air brushes and reminded me how much I enjoyed the painting portion. And so it begun, yard art with bling.
Most of my yard art pieces are made from some type of repurposed materials like Automotive sheet metal (hoods and trucks are great), flywheels and brake rotors, ball bearings, coat hangers , used rebar and other miscellaneous metal hardware. Once the sculptures have their form in raw metal, they are ready for their colors and bling. Application of the colors is what is probably the most satisfying part of the creation, the Kandy kolors over the metal flakes blinging in the sun are candy for the eye. Yard art with a bling.
